Getting ready for the feasts in Gozo, 2024!

Summer feasts are a true representation of what makes Gozo such a magical place. Through the summer season one is surrounded by the sights and sounds of celebration, community and faith as each of the villages on the island honour their respective saints.

The summer feasts began as a traditional way to honour the patron saint of the towns and villages. The people depended on the saints for good fortune over the coming year, as well as help in times of need. It was a way of thanksgiving.
Nowadays, although the celebration in certainly rooted in these values, one can expect much larger, ecstatic celebrations which bring together the community to enjoy great food, drink, togetherness and of course, fireworks.

The feast ‘season’ starts in May and will continue through mid September, with each locality having roughly a week of celebration.
Expect more traditional celebrations in the way of religious ceremonies and processions at the grand churches that lie at the heart of each village.
Celebrating villages are adorned with amazing decorations. Colours, lights, statues and banners line the streets.
The sounds of traditional bands ring through towns and provide backing music for atmospheric marches and street parties.
