Double Arch

In Gozo alone there are a number of dive sites with underwater archways. However, this ‘Double Arch’, a huge natural structure consisting of 2 large archways stacked on top of each other, is certainly unique!

The dive begins in the Xwejni bay area, just outside Marsalforn on Gozo’s north coast. The dive can begin from the bay itself or ‘the washing machine’, which is a small u shape naturally cut into the salt pans to the left of the bay.
Either way, the swim out to double arch takes a little while as it is around 200m off shore. This can be done by swimming a large portion of this on the surface, before descending on the drop-off, or swimming underwater which would take around 20 minutes.

The double arch itself reaches a maximum depth of 36m, with the top of the reef sitting at around 17m. Here dives can enjoy large shoals of fish, and it is one of the best places to go searching for barracuda, often found circling the reef.

Divers can then enjoy a slow, steady swim back in the shallow water towards Xwejni bay, looking for various smaller reef fish which use the posidonia as a nursery and shelter from predators.
