Xatt l-Ahmar bay
Nestled in a secluded corner of Gozo’s stunning south coast lies Xatt l-Ahmar bay. Xatt l-Ahmar, or ‘The Red Coast’, is a great dive site for all levels due to the open space, clear, calm water and different depths that divers are able to reach while exploring the area.
Divers enter the water from a small set of steps into a shallow bay, ranging from 2-5m.
From there you have many options of how to plan the dive. Should you wish. you are able to stay nice and shallow, following the coastline, exploring the rocky reef as they go. Divers looking to add some depth to the profile can make their way down the gentle slope, eventually reaching the drop-off where you are able to hit a maximum of around 35-40m.
No matter what your plan is, the area has versatile topography, plant and animal life to explore and enjoy. Large meadows of posidonia which are home to a wide variety of smaller reef fish, fields of impressive boulders and smaller rocky reef areas are home to a great deal of marine life. Highlights often include cuttlefish, octopus, Mediterranean moray, blue runner, amberjack, barracuda and more.
From beginner to experienced divers, this dive site has something to offer us all.
