Anchor Reef

Anchor Reef is a segment of the reef stretching from Reqqa Point to the west and Double Arch to the east. The steep drop-offs and scattered large boulders along the coastline create an ideal environment for captivating marine life encounters. It's worth noting that the anchor, which once lent its name to the site, is no longer present. Rumours suggest it was illegally removed, placed in a museum, or moved towards Double Arch by waves and current, where it was broken. Regardless of the anchor's fate, Anchor Reef remains a fantastic site for divers of all levels.

The beauty of Gozo's north coast unfolds as divers prepare and slowly enter the water. Caution is essential during entry, ensuring calm water conditions, and navigating the small steps carved by fishermen. Once in the water, divers have the flexibility to choose their depth, with opportunities to explore down to around 50m. The deeper waters often reveal larger fish, including Grouper perched on the submerged boulders. Continuing along the sheer wall, adorned with various ledges for exploration, makes it an excellent location for spotting schools of Barracuda.

After turning the dive, a plateau at 12m provides a comfortable route back atop the reef. Divers need to be mindful of exiting at the same point, using the rugged steps cut into the white stone.

For those who appreciate relaxed wall and reef dives teeming with marine life, Anchor Reef presents an excellent option.
